how to prepare for gate while doing engineering right now i am in 2nd year in ece branch?

Dear Deepak, I am glad that you have started taking GATE preparation seriously from 2nd year. It is the best time for one to start preparing for the examination. In addition to Engineering Mathematics and General Ability, GATE paper in ECE consists of 8 subjects related to electronics. You will learn most of these subjects in 2nd year or 3rd year of Engineering. And you can really secure your seat in IIT if start studying for your university subjects keeping in mind the final goal i.e. GATE exam. -> First of all get a copy of GATE syllabus. -> Get all the previous year question papers (you can download them from internet) ->Get a good question bank for your preparation. I will strongly recommend GATE ECE question bank by R.K. Kanodia. It is the first book you should purchase. There are very less errors in it as compared to other question banks available in market (like GK Publications, don't even think of buying it). ->R.K. Kanodia comes with a supplementary book which contains all previous years question papers. All the questions are segregated subject wise. -> When you prepare for your university exam, keep question bank of the same subject with you, and study the topic in detail. Make sure that after reading a particular topic you are able to solve the GATE problems on the same topic. This will also make your university exams a piece of cake for you. -> Only refer reference books and standard text books while preparation. They may be hard to understand at first. But after a while you will be accustomed to them. Local books do more harm than good to your concept building, which vital for GATE exam , or for that matter any technical competitive exam. -> Remember It require a lot of perseverance, determination and self discipline.
