How to prepare for IAS exam?

I have passed 12th from PCM this year & will do b-tech. but i am highly ambitious to compete IAS. But I don't know how and how much to begin and in which direction since I have plenty of time and want to build up my personality and knowledge for my goal bit by bit. Please give helpful advice.

    We all can give certain of our impressions on preparation, but we can not be prescriptive. I personally feel that you need the maximum of hard work and study of a wide range of books.There should be a multi-sided growth of your personality.You have to live up to the challenges of the examination.

    - You may refer to guide books such as :
    General Studies Manual
    Indian Politics by Lakshmikanth
    Ancient History by D.D.Kausambi’s
    R.S.Agarwal [Arithmetic]
    Wren & Martin [English Grammar]
    Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation by Arun Sharma
    - You may even study journals and even watch television for important news reports.
    - Reading English newspapers will also help the students to get a good hold on the English language.
    - Always keep the syllabus and past five years question papers handy.

    Start with economics and polity. Because once you understand the fundamentals of these subjects you will be able to comprehend newspaper in a better way.
    For economics NCERT class 12th Macroeconomic book is a must for concept building. Finish it in a week and then move to Ramesh Singh's Indian Economy for Civil Services.
    Simultaneously with economics or after that pick up Indian Polity for Civil Services by M Laxmikant. Polity is very important subject IAS and this book is sufficient for prelims.
    After that you can move to history or geography. For modern history everyone recommends Bipin Chandra's book. But don't neglect Spectrum's book
