I would suggest that you write a mock CAT to figure out your strengths and weak areas. Depending on your score you can figure out when to start preparing. Its possible to score well in CAT by preparing rigorously for 4-5 months if your basics are good.

You have a long way to go before you actually need to start preparing for CAT. However keep few things in mind. All IIMs place a lot of value on graduation marks, hence ensure that you graduate with really good marks. Secondly, CAT usually tests you on your comprehensive abilities and quantitative abilities. Hence improve your reading skills, read a lot of novels, practice maths problems and practice questions on English grammar.
