I am a first year engineering student.How can I participate in the projects that are done by IITs every year,during my four years of btech?

Please tell me if a student from a non- IIT can participate in the projects that are done by the IITs and what are the procedures for applying and in which months do these projects take place ?

Thanx @manmeet. @excel has given the right answer and I will add just one more that now days, IIT-Mumbai is offering some workshops through on line tutorials but for that, the concerned college has to approach them. It is free of cost and they give certificates to participating students. So, Azusa,
