    HI,
    The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) of India conducts the exam and on the basis of the result IAS, IPS, IFS officers are selected.
    For preliminary test preparation , you should be aware of all the current affairs, plus you should prepare well for general knowledge, you should develop a habit of reading news papers, magazines and journals daily, as this will help you to prepare well for GK and current affairs.
    Most of the students form science background opt for Botany, Zoology, physics,but which ever subject you choose you must have in depth knowledge of the subject you opt for.

    Hi Ajinkya, UPSC conducts civil services examination every year and on the basis of this examination a number of IAS, IPS, IFS officers are recruited.
    The notification for this exam comes out in the month of January end.
    To crack the exam, the preparation requires the right approach along with the right study materials and strategy. The preparation requires focused study rather than plain hard work.

    you should have to start study of general study , you can prefer spectrum book for General study, CSR magazine for current affairs , this is first step for preparation for IAS exam

    i find that most science students opt for arts subjects,as a matter of convenience.i find students opting for subjects like anthropology and they say they stand a better competition likewise.much depends on your proficiency in the subject concerned

    Well as per your query I would say that there are a few criterion that needs to be in mind while selecting optional for IAS.
    *First and the foremost, the Candidate must be comfortable in grasping the concepts of the subject.
    *Availability of study material is also an important factor in determining the optional subject.
    *Candidate should not choose a subject just because it's said to be scoring or his friends are choosing it.
    As far as your prior educational background is concerned, you can opt for either of Science subjects or Medical Sciences along with any other subject for which you possess keen interest and passion. For f
