Let me tell you about the benefits of pursuing M.Tech in India, then you can decide accordingly:
I would answer this in perspective of pursing M.Tech in top colleges in India like IITs and NITs. (1) Better placement opportunities compared to B.Tech:
There are numerous engineering colleges where Lacs of student get B.Tech degree every year. Among those colleges, many won't even have placement drive. Even if they have, the number of companies that come are limited making it difficult to get a job by end of course. So, while you are in B.Tech, you can channel your efforts in getting good rank in GATE and join Masters. By any measure, Masters in top tier colleges will have way more placement opportunities than that of many B.Tech engineering colleges. (2) Opportunity to enter non-IT sector:
Even if the B.Tech College have large placement records, most of the companies that hire belong to pure IT sector. (Read TCS, Wipro, Infosys etc.)
Product based companies like Cisco, Samsung, Broadcom, Texas Instruments, and Intel etc. Won't go for campus recruitments from engineering colleges all over the country. If at all they would recruit freshers, they choose ones from top tier colleges. So, irrespective of what engineering college you pursue B.Tech in, if you enter M.Tech in one of the top tier colleges, you definitely have your chance of getting a job in such product based companies directly. (When I say directly, it means without any experience. Those companies definitely recruit ones with relevant industry experience. But again, note the word Relevant). Only thing is to prepare yourself and work hard. From B.Tech, you won't have chance even if you work very hard unless your college is one among the top tier. (3) Good salaries and opportunities in teaching field:
If you are keen in teaching field, wanted to become a professor, M.Tech paves the way. Most of the engineering colleges prefer only M. Techs for the cadre of Assistant Professor. You can clear the NET exam (
http://cbsenet.nic.in/cms/public. ). Which qualifies you even better for this job and fixes your minimum pay scale. Only Masters are eligible for this test. (4) Pursuing Ph.D
Lastly, if you want to go for research in your area of interest, M.Tech is required
* Final decision is yours according to your need and preference.
