Hello,
It is all up to you how much you are dedicated towards your goals, and how much you are serious towards your preparation and if you have a clear vision and target towards UPSC exams and you are unable to give time to your studies and if your parents are financial strong, then you can quit the job and first focus for Exams to fulfill your dreams. All the best for your future. -
Hi Sindhumati!
It all depends on you whether you should quit your job or not. If you are able to manage time and balance between your job and UPSC preparation, you need not leave the job. But, if you think you are not able to manage it well and can afford to leave the job, it is upto you. For preparation, I would suggest you first strategy should be to go through all the NCERT books of the following subjects (from 6th to 12th grade):
History
Geography
Politics
Economics
After this, read the following books. These are not recommended books for the examination but will help you understand your country better.

Yes, the UPSC IAS previous year question papers are very important because they provide a clear picture of the exam. The UPSC IAS PYQs hints about the most frequently asked topics in the exam. It also provides the tentative weightage of the sections in the UPSC IAS syllabus.
The candidates can cover the IAS prelims syllabus if in six months if they are appearing for it for the first time. In case, the candidate has cleared the prelims earlier, he or she can prepare it in three months.
The Union Public Service Commission will notify the UPSC IAS Syllabus 2026 in its official notification. The Commission will release the Civil Service 2026 notification on January 14, 2026.
In my opinion, if you want to prepare for UPSC or any other competitive exams later, you can pursue a BA in Political Science, Economics, History, or Sociology. Since their syllabus is heavily equipped with GK, Indian and world history, public policy, public administration, Indian and world politics, it'll be easier for you to strengthen your base.
