I am B.E. passout in 2012. I've misplaced my 7th sem result and haven't yet collected my convocation certificate.
Is convocation must for working/studying abroad? what is the procedure to collect both 7th sem marksheet and convocation certificate?

It varies from company to company but by your own don't do any mistake else some golden chances can flew.
