It sounds good because you are confident in Java and Python. The choice is completely yours because you know pretty well what you really want to do but if I have to choose then prefer Machine Learning and use Python for that.
Python is one of the popular languages of AI because of rich library and ease in use. Nowadays most of the machine learning tools use Python frequently for e.g.: Tensorflow, PyTorch, Theano, Keras, etc. There are so many tutorials and courses available on the internet regarding machine learning using Python. So make your own choice.
