From my opinion you should start preparing after a year or so. But you can prepare for the eaxm whenever you feel without coaching. Follow the below steps:-
Know the syllabus of entrance exam. Buy previous years questions bank for the entrance from the market. Read basics of given syllabus from the NCERT book or any text book. Solve previous questions in time constraint and analyse it, work on your weakness and revise your strong point regularly. That's more than enough. Rest leave on your destiny. Hope that helps :). .

The JMI B.Des entrance exam has two stages: a written test and a portfolio review with an interview. The written test includes topics like general knowledge, drawing skills, design aptitude, logical reasoning, and English comprehension. To prepare, focus on sketching, creative thinking, current affairs, and building a strong design portfolio. Practice with NID/NIFT materials and reasoning books.
