I am pursuing B.Tech (1st year) from mechanical branch. Which books should I prefer for good understanding?

Hi Rajneesh,
There is no single book which is best. There are actually quite a few books since every subject has/have special book/s. Below is the list of famous books.
Thermodynamics- Cengel n Boles/P K Nag
Machine design- Shigley/ VB Bhanadari
Som- Beer n Johnston (The best one. Don't read Popov n Timoshenko. These r research oriented books )
Tom-Norton/ S S Ratan/ Ghosh n Malik (I used Ratan)
Materials n metallurgy- Kodgire
IC engines- Ganeshan
Power plant engineering- Domkundwar
Refrigeration- I prefer R S khurmi. This is the only book I liked of him.
Heat n mass transfer-Bejan
Fluid mechanics-Som N Biswas
