As an engineering graduate I don't want to suppress your dream but engineering career is money making process for private colleges. If you really want to go in the field of engineering then try for IIT and AIEEE. In my opinion you shall take admission for B.Sc and prepare for government exams and if you are interested in private jobs then pursue B.Sc and job oriented course.

You are advised to appear for LEET or equivalent examination conducted by Engineering colleges or state technical education board for seeking lateral entry admission in B.Tech mechanical engineering after Diploma in engineering. If you are unable to get admission in lateral entry in engineering you can do AMIE which is equivalent to B.Tech.
