Yes, you are correct to be worried. When I went to study EE, myself and many of my classmates were also shocked by the amount of mathematics we had to go through (mostly, the first two years). For most of us, EE was soldering circuits others had designed (making your own audio amplifier was very popular at that time.) However, studying EE requires a lot of math (and some physics) before you reach the fun parts: designing circuits and programming. On the other hand, when you go to school, you will also realize that EE is way far more than doing simple DIY projects, all set up and ready to go by others. EE covers a variety of diverse subjects like: power electronics, semiconductors, telecommunications, image and signal processing, computer architecture, etc., to name a few.
