Yes, you mechanical engineers can get a job in an IT company. In order to get the job, the mechanical engineering freshers must make sure they are well prepared for the AMCAT, have brushed up their knowledge of C language and C+ language, and have proper knowledge of the IT company they are looking for a job in, to be able to face the interview. A list of top IT companies that are offering jobs for mechanical engineers:
    1- Tata Consultancy Services.
    2- Cognizant.
    3- Wipro.
4- Infosys, etc. I hope this will help you.

Its difficult to get placements beyond the core engineering branches but not impossible. Many of students of core branches are participating and getting placements in IT companies. TIET Patiala is an example.
