I failed my class 12 CBSE regular year, and again the next year as a private candidate. Can I appear for it again on the upcoming year?

If a student fails in Class 12 CBSE Board Exams on his regular year and fails again on the next year as a private candidate through essential repeat, is he allowed to appear again through CBSE (essential repeat 2nd attempt)? Is there a fixed number of permissible attempts of essential repeats?

If the student fails in more than one subject, then he/she is marked as “Essential Repeat" in CBSE class 12 and must give the exams the next year. Even if you passed, but want to improve your marks, you can appear as a private candidate.13 May 2025
