I finished class 12 and will be taking CSE in B.Tech. How should I start preparing? What are the best beginner books for programming?

Programming in C by Ashok N. Kamthane and also there are various other good books also. You can also watch youtube videos on C and C+.

B.Tech (in CSE) doesn't primarily focuses on programming. CSE contains both hardware & software related subjects. If you're mainly interested in programming, then I recommend you should go with B.Tech (in IT). Firstly, before beginning you should not worry about understanding programming whether you previously had experience in programming or not. Once, your session begins, your professors will teach you programming from the ground level (at-least the basics). Here, your interest towards programming will play a mojor role. If you've interest you'll pay much more attention towards programming related subjects and eventually you'll do well. You can begin your learning with C Programming Language, as this will be your first language in B.Tech. The best and most commonly preferred books are Programming in C by Reema Thareja. This is the most likely book to be referred by your college too. Or you can also go with popular Head First C for much in-depth knowledge.
