    Universities generally accept this IELTS score range within the United States, and they will consider an application with a 5.5 band score. However, you cannot afford to take any chances. You have to have an improved score before applying directly to these universities in the USA for a chance at being accepted by them.

    Generally the US universities should keep a minimum IELTS score of around 6.5 but there are few colleges that go below the 6.5 cutoff. Those will give admission for students with low IELTS band scores of 6.0 and 5.5.
