For the interview you cannot change the specialization. Change of specialization is possible after first year owing to certain guidelines. But the specialization you have been called for is based on the preferences you have given and your profile.

My first pref was Operations and marketing was second. Now I'm convinced that Operations is what I want to do. Any advice/suggestions. What affect will mentioning this to the interview panel have on my chances of getting a convert ?

SPJIMR is unique that it makes you choose your specialization in the beginning. Starting with this year's batch, they have a Minor specialization also and you could look at Operations as a minor. Else also they allow changing specialization, very hard though, but yes you can.
