Your rank has to be within 250 in your own branch to get a seat in top-7 IITs. In newer IITs upto 500 rank may get admission.

Hi Venkat,
Every student receives a GATE score which is associated with two points, i.e., valid time period and qualifying marks. Your score is only valid when it is above or equal to the score of qualifying marks.
As per the previous year, the cut-off in IITs is as follows :
