After completing your graduation, you either have a good 3-year LLB programme to pursue or could go for a 5-year integrated law programme if you haven't graduated yet, which is possible only after graduation. The general guidelines regarding admission into a law college in India are as follows:
1. Eligibility for 3-Year LLB Program
Educational Qualification: Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university.
Minimum Marks: Generally, you require at least 45-50% marks secured at a graduation degree level (the cutoff is relaxed for reserved candidates).
Age Limit: Most universities prescribe an age limit (usually 30 years for general candidates), but this may differ from one university to another.
2. Entrance Test to Join 3-Year LLB Course
Universities admit students for a 3-year LLB course through entrance exams, but there are a few colleges that do direct admissions:
LSAT India: Common entrance for law colleges.
DU LLB Entrance Exam: Delhi University, Law Faculty,
MH CET Law: For law colleges of Maharashtra,
Other University-Specific Exams: Symbiosis Law School, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), and many others hold their own entrance exams.
3. Application Process
Research Colleges: Identify the 3-year LLB law colleges and check for eligibility and entrance exam details, as well as deadlines.
Register for Entrance Exams: Fill out the application for the entrance exams you will be appearing for: LSAT, DU LLB, MH CET, etc.
Preparation for the Examination: Preparation in areas like General Knowledge, English, Legal Reasoning, and Logical Ability.
Appear for the Exam: Get into the examination hall, sit tight, and take the entrance exam.
Counselling with Admission: If you have passed the entrance exam, you should be called for counselling and then asked to choose your preferred college.
4. Admission to the 5-Year Integrated LLB
For those students who want to pursue a 5-year integrated LLB programme like the BA LLB, BBA LLB, etc., he/she may apply for admission immediately after passing his/her 12th grade examination. However since this student has already completed graduation, he/she does not qualify for that option unless he/she is willing to have a second degree.
5. Required Documents for Admission
Graduation degree certificate
Mark sheets of 10th, 12th, and graduation
Proof of age (birth certificate or any valid ID)
Caste certificate (if applicable)
