For becoming a Lecturer it is mandatory to clear UGC NET exam. So I suggest you prepare and appear in this exam which is held twice in a year.

It is quite possible.It won't spoil your research in any way.But,if you are a regular research student,there may be a technical problems.Your guide may have to agree for it.
