Once you complete your diploma, you will be eligible for technician posts in all government sector jobs. In government jobs, Gap in studies are not considered but they give maximum age up to which you can apply. The maximum age for general category, in most cases is above 28 years except defense jobs. But again for recruitment purpose in Ordinance factories and Base Repair Depots of Air Force, age limit is up to 28 years.

Joining polytechnic is surely a good idea to target government job. However, it is not too easy to get a govt. job and you have to work very hard and smart to get one besides having some strong political or bureaucratic connections to refer you as there are millions trying for fewer govt. jobs.
