    Hello,
If you wanted to do Masters in technology that is M.Tech. from prominent IITs & IISc then GATE is the compulsory.
If you wanted to do Masters in Science again through IIT colleges than IIT JAM exam is their IIT JAM exam is conducted to pursue the Master degree in science (M.Sc) at IITs & IISc.
The IIT JAM exam is conducted in 7 subjects.
IIT JAM exam is relatively easy exam as the GATE exam has more than 10 subjects to prepare for the exam but in IIT JAM student need to focus on the single subject in which the candidate is going to give the exam.

No, it doesn't matter if you have completed your B.Tech recently or 2-3 years ago. You have to go through an examination called GATE and then you can get admission in a reputed college of India for M.Tech.
