You are completely new to the engineering world. The first year is just an advanced level of class 11&12th so, just chill. You will be introduced to the engineering subjects in your 2nd year. The ideal time to start the preparations for GATE is the 3rd year. Start preparing for GATE from the 3rd year of graduation. Get the syllabus of subjects of your branch related to GATE from it's official website. Clear your concepts and practice ample amount of problems.
