I'm pursuing B.Sc (computer science) final year & thinking of doing MBA for my post-graduation, is it the best idea to do so?

Hi Arindam, Yes, it is a very good idea. You can go for MBA courses after completing your B.Sc. And, you will be given managerial posts after MBA. So, it is beneficial to go for MBA. Best of luck.

It is wonderful. I will take two person A and BA is an engineer. Worked in IT for couple of years and joined MBA. B is a fresh graduate and joined MBA right after. Let’s look at the career path of both. A: Engineering got completed by 22-23. After working for say 2 years he joined MBA. So, he would be 26-27 by the time he start working again post MBA. B: 21-22 graduation gets completed. 23-24 MBA gets completed. Starts working at 23-24. Now, most Indian B-school gives a little extra score if someone has work experience. But to follow the global trend, diversity has also become a big factor for Indian B-Schools. Since majority of the students across most top 30 B-Schools are engineers, disadvantage of not having a work experience gets negated against the advantage of not being an engineer. Except IT companies and some analytics firms, no sales or investment banks give any extra weightage on non-relevant work experience (I. e. if you are recruited as an investment banker and you are having experience in sales). So assuming that A and B ends up in the same job, B who had a B.Sc. Background will be ahead of A by 3 years (in terms of age) while starting at the same position. So, a B.Sc has much brighter prospects then an engineer. But if A is an engineer he will have a higher chance of getting a job after graduation (blame it on the system) as against B. If A happens to end up in a really good profile after engineering, that experience will put him little ahead in the race when A and B sit together for a consulting job. The consulting firms put lot of emphasis on domain knowledge and a good experience always earns a lot of brownie points. Thus there are advantages and disadvantages of doing MBA after B.Sc. But if you ignore few industry sectors I strongly feel a B.Sc. Or any other three year graduate degree makes more sense and beneficial in terms of career for an MBA. I hope it helps you a lot.
