Prepare as you would prepare for CAT. Also go through newspapers daily to prepare yourself for the General Knowledge section. Take mock tests.
Institution question is a bit vague. All IIM's are good along with IIFT, MDI, FMS, NITIE, NMIMS, SIBM, XLRI or any other institute that regularly appears in the top 20 list or top 30 list of MBA colleges -

If you are preparing for CAT it will be sufficient for IIFT exam. But the extra topic would be GK which makes IIFT exam difficult. For that part you have to follow current affairs as well as static GK. Last 1 year GK before exam would be more than sufficient for the exam.
