I scored 71 percent. Should I opt for a drop to prepare for IIT? I scored 100 marks in JEE.

You have good marks in JEE. You can get government colleges of your state it's better to try once in the state-level counselling. Taking drop is not a good option because to get NIT, you must have 75 percentage in 12th so if you take a drop, then also you will not get any NIT software scoring good marks so if you take a drop, you should also try for improvement in board exam, then it will be beneficial.

A casual suggestion, before you jump to conclusion for your future-Ask yourself if you are willing to give your 100% and if it is what you want for your future.
If the answer to both questions is yes then you should prepare for IIT. 100 is a good score for beginners, if you prepare for exam thoroughly, then you certainly will get a good score and a good college. Also, as a side note, give a thought about applying for a private or distance UG course that you can study easily. It could be your Plan B or insurance.
