I've heard that students need to have a strong financial background and good contacts to pursue event management as a career, is it true?

Having contacts will help you getting better opportunities in the field of event management. As one of the booming industries in India, you will get the chances to work with big corporates too and can have your own adequate contacts in a quick span. Financial background is not an important factor for working in an event managing team. Things you need to do is working hard, being punctual and a team-man.
