I want a career in research in astrophysics. I will be passing 12th in 2017. Which course should I choose?

Astronomy / Astro physics requires strong knowledge / base in physics and mathematics. Astronomy is one of the oldest fields of scientific enquiry. It is an observational Science that studies about Planets, Galaxies,Stars, Dark energies etc. Astrophysics deals with the physics or its a branch of physics , that helps to understand the nature of the Universe and applies many disciplines of physics, including mechanics, electromagnetism, statistical mechanics, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, relativity, nuclear and particle physics, and atomic and molecular physics, field theory etc Astronomy is not avilable at Graduate Level. So it is better to pursue B.Sc in Physics as a fist step into astronomy research career. Master level programs are offered by various universities. 1. Pondichery University -Dept.of Astrophysics 2. OSMANIYA University- Dept.of Astronomy 3. Indian Institute of Atrophysics 4. Pandit Ravishankar Sukla University Indian Institute of Astrophysics has recently introduced an integrated M.Sc-PhD course in Astrophysics in collobaration with IGNOU. The Admission will be on the basis of entrance test and mark in qualifying examinations. Eligibility : B.Sc-Physics / B Tech Graduates who have studies engineering physics are eligible to apply for the program. The selected students are eligible for a stipend of Rs.10,000 / Month, book grant, Hostel etc. Up on the succesful completion of two years, candidates will be awarded M.Sc-Degree. PhD - Candidates with Minimum grade points are only permitted to continue with PhD, They are eligible for Rs. 16,000 Studentship / Month.
