Most of research centres in Government and Private sector hires PhD candidates as Scientists. You are advised to do M.Sc Chemistry followed by PhD to fulfill your dream.

I would suggest you to go for M.Sc in chemistry, and then you can pursue Ph.D in the same. You can try to clear JRF NET in chemical sciences.
