I want to apply for assistant professor job in a private college. Is NET exam mandatory for the same?

Yes. Legally, you have to qualify in the UGC NET Exam to teach in colleges or any institute in India. At the time of the interview for Assistant Professor post, you have to present the UGC NET Certificate that will be provided by UGC after qualifying the UGC NET Exam. If you have completed the master's degree and interested to become a lecturer in a private college, then go for UGC NET Exam first. The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency twice a year. 7 years agoAs per UGC norms, NET examination is mandatory to teach in colleges and universities. However, there are private colleges who hire non NET candidate on consolidated pay. Well prepare for interview and Give a try. All the best.
