I want to be a news reporter. Is it necessary to have a degree in mass communication?

If you really know writing and the skills of storytelling then, there is no need to have a degree in mass communication. Even now there are a number of stringers who are working for news channels and newspapers but they don't have any degree. That doesn't mean they are not reporters. They are doing well and the organisations are paying well as like other ones. But some organisations have a procedure for appointment of reporter. They can ask for a professional degree in Journalism Field. So don't worry, you can fulfill the degree formalities through distance mode and just join any organisation as intern first. Absolutely no, there is no requirement of any degree in Journalism if you want to get into this field. If you look at the today's big personalities of Media field then you would find that not everyone has a media background. So basically all you need is a good knowledge about the current scenario of Indian politics, current affairs and the latest ongoing trends in Media along with a good communication skill. When you visit for an interview in media firm, No one will ask for your degree but they will look at your approach to become a media person. So good luck and try your best if you want to become a journalist.
