First, you have to decide, in which subject you are interested in? IAS is completely a different field, and engineering is totally different. Think well, and then decide. All the best.

If your aim is clear that you have to become a IAS then don't go for engineering as it takes 4 years to complete with too much study load. Whereas B.A will complete in 3 years and you can freely prepare for UPSC exam alongwith the degree.

It doesn't matters which field your graduation degree is in. Do what is easy for you to do and simultaneously, prepare for government exams. Engineering could require more of time and efforts, only if you could hustle that hard, go for it. Otherwise, Bachelor's degree is okay.

    Hi Mohan!
If you want to become an IAS officer, then you need to appear for UPSC examination. They require a minimum qualification of graduation to apply for the posts. You can do any graduation courses. You can pursue this even after engineering. It depends on you totally.
    Best of luck.
