I want to know about technical writing and does companies prefer technical writers? And what is the scope of technical writing in India?

Currently I am working as a Content analyst in an eCommerce company. So I would like to know about the Technical Writing as a career and it's scope. I do have technical knowledge as I am B.tech from IT. So please suggest about it.
