As far as Disaster Management as a career is concerned, In recent years the world community including India face many devastating natural Disasters like Tsunami, earthquakes, catastrophic hurricanes, landslides, droughts, , terrorist attacks, and with the need to manage large numbers of persons displaced by these emergencies Has risen the need to have Disaster Management specialists As the Hospitals, local communities, and international organizations cannot rely on normal procedures to implement a successful response to disasters, Trained Disaster Management professionals are the need of the hour. These professionals are required at the local, national, and even the international level to tackle challenges such as disaster risk reduction, disaster preparedness, disaster response, and disaster management. Tata Institute of Social Sciences 9TISS) offers M.A / M.Sc in Disaster Management. It is a Master’s programme in Disaster Management offered by the center since 2007 and aims at enhancing knowledge, skills and perspectives on disaster. The 1st batch has passed out in 2009 only and therefore much historical data about placements are not available. However TISS has a high reputation and besides this several organizations & Govt is gradually awakening to have proper systems to tackle disaster. Therefore it is a new field and hence growth in it would be reasonable fast. I suggest that with this qualification you also take up some other courses such as HR management so that your career does not get disturbed if the organizations take time to recruit team specifically for disaster control.
