I want to prepare for IAS. Would opting for B.A. be fine if I see it as a backup? What are the backup courses in the B.A. field one can do?

Yes, I think BA will be fine as there are multiple options for you as in you can:
1. Do Masters and then get into Teaching as a Lecturer in a College/University
2. Do B.Ed and become a School Teacher
3. Prepare for Various government. , exams and get a government job.
4. Crack UPSC-CSE
5. Learn som
