I want to switch from non-tech (BBA) to the software field. Do I need to start over completely?

You will not be required to totally start over, but you need to start at the bottom with respect to the fundamentals surrounding software skills. You need to learn the basics (programming (Python or Java), data structures, web development, etc. Online courses, bootcamps, and certifications can help
