Hi Keerthi, first of all great to know that despite being from engineering background you want to go for Civil Services. Keep it up.
To be eligible to sit for IAS (Indian Administrative Services) Exam conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) every year, one needs to be:
An Indian National Citizen
A graduate in any discipline from a recognized university and
In the age limit of 21-30 years.
Talking about the Examination pattern there would be two papers in prelims- Reasoning Aptitude and English Comprehension. Followed by the main exam that would entirely be subjective. For details check www.upsc.gov.in

Civil Service Examination which is conducted by UPSC is a really tough examination and advisable would be that you join some coaching classes for the same.
However, if you plan to go for self study in that case you need to keep yourself updated on current affairs (read News papers, watch news channels) & work on your language skills (read novels). You should also work on your own core subjects as you need to opt for an optional subject which can be from your own stream.
