Unfortunately, the answer to this question is "yes".
CAT preparation won't be sufficient enough for XAT and the same holds true if you are preparing for XAT.
This is because the intention to check on the areas are very different in both the exams.
XAT questions are on difficult side whereas CAT questions are easy to moderate level. Also, XAT has General Knowledge section and Decision making sections that are not covered in CAT syllabus.
Thus perpetration for one exam doesn't assure you are ready for other. But yes, the preparation of CAT will ensure a smooth road for XAT preparation and it would be easier. -
As per my opinion, XAT is the toughest of all MBA entrance exams. It is mainly because of decision making and General Knowledge sections that are extra in XAT. The difficulty level of even the common sections like Verbal and quantitative aptitude sections is also more in XAT compared to CAT. Not to forget the essay writing section which is a subjective component present in XAT but not in any other MBA entrance tests. For GK, read newspaper regularly and that is important from interview perspective as well. For decision making section nothing helps you more than a lot of practice as there is no hard and fast rules on how to do it well....more
