    It is important to learn camerawork in a theoretical context first. Most of world's camera persons are made to understand the manipulative world of pictures. Only then have they become great photographers. Do a Mass Comm course first. Understand the power and responsibilities that go with the aesthetics of the image. Next you can specialize in technical and technological aspects of camera.

    Much like the music business, still photography as a career is seeing its toughest phase ever. Most print magazines and newspapers are facing tough competition from other media platforms and photography is one of the many department that have to bear the brunt. Most of these companies buy stock photos from websites such as imagebazaar and istock (I am a publisher and I do it too). Plus, instagram and pinterest etc. have ruined the field for a majority of photographers who worked earlier on margins.
