Actually, if you completed your class 12th in 2019, you can appear for JEE Mains thrice, i.e., in 2019, 2020, 2021. So, you have 3 chances. Instead of doing class 12th again, you can take break and can prepare for JEE. -
Originally every candidate has a maximum of three attempts for JEE Main. Candidates can appear twice for the entrance test in a year. So this is used in correlation with the original number of attempts, from 2019 onwards, JEE Main number of attempts in total will be six. -

According to the NTA, a student can attempt JEE Main twice in a year in a particular academics session, however as per new eligibility criteria a candidate can appear JEE Main for three consecutive year, so you have chance to give JEE Main again prepare well for next year instead of doing class 12th.
