Admission criteria for Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) can vary depending on the specific programme and year, but typically the eligibility requirements include both academic qualifications and entrance examination scores. For admission to IIST's undergraduate programs in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, and Physical Sciences, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Must have scored at least 75% aggregate marks in their Class 12 board examinations (or equivalent) in the Science stream Physics Chemistry and Mathematics) or be in the top 20 percentile in their Class 12 board examinations conducted

Admission to IIST (Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology) is based on the JEE Advanced score and other criteria such as age, educational qualifications, and medical fitness. While the admission process is subject to change, as of my knowledge in cutoff, IIST required candidates to have scored at least 75% aggregate marks in their class XII (or equivalent) board exams or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards. Yes, this field is considered hard. It is complex and demands high precision. There can be extreme consequences for minor errors. The overall field is extremely challenging as it requires to apply the basic scientific principles to design and develop rockets. It requires sophisticated engineering with careful material selection, and allows narrow margin for error.
