If I take Bio in 1st PU / 11th, can I still continue with engineering afterwards?

I plan on continuing with Engineering in the near future, but in case my choice changes, can I still continue with it if I take Biology in my 11th/1st PU? I've heard that is allowed, but does it remain valid (in Karnataka, Bangalore) in case I lose interest in Engineering? Thanks.
