In both Ramjas and KMC, which is a better course: B.Com (H) or Economics (H)?

Hi, Both are good colleges and at the same time both are good courses to do. Especially, if you are interested to do one of these two courses then SRCC (Shri Ram College of Commerce) is much better for hons in B.Com & Eco. However, let’s analyse which is more suitable for you. For B.Com (H), there are multiple options after completing this course like doing MBA or any other professional courses, of course you can also do CA but if you want to do B.Com ( H) in some colleges like Ramjas/ KMC then you need to get to know whether the college is allowing you to do the regular B.Com and CA simultaneously, because some colleges do not allow students to opt for regular B.Com ( H ) while doing CA, in such cases you need to study your B.Com through correspondence. Let’s come back to our discussion: 1) Remember there is no accountancy/ commerce related topics in ECO (H), so if you are interested in accountancy and want to settle in finance & accounts field then it would be better to opt for B.Com (H) 2) You will some extent touch the economic concepts while studying B.Com (H), if you want to do any professional courses or go for MBA after degree then B.Com (H) is good. 3) On other side if you want to do any research and keen about economics then ECo (H) is the correct course to choose, you will get to learn micro, macro, international economics, you will get to do the maths and need to learn the Indian history etc. and also you can become the economics professor and can be placed in IES services. So, interesting in research then Eco ( H ) is better course for you, you should understand that the course is more important which you choose than the college because course is what you learn for life but college is only for some short period of time which in this case is only for 3 years.

Both these subjects have equally good scope. With a B.Com Hons. you will have an option for Chartered accountancy, Cost accountant, Company secretary, Chartered financial analyst. Also you could consider options in Management, Accounting, Media, Hospitality, IT, Academics, Social Work and Law, to name a few. However, the same would apply for economics Hons. as well. An Honors degree in Economics consolidates and extends your understanding and knowledge of general economics. It enables you to pursue more specialized study in some area of particular interest. Commerce is a division of trade or production which deals with the exchange of goods and services from producer to final consumer. It comprises the trading of something of economic value such as goods, services, information or money between two or more entities. Commerce functions as the central mechanism, which drives capitalism and certain other economic systems. Commerce primarily expresses the fairly abstract notions of buying and selling. Economics is the branch of social science that studies the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. However, your chances of getting through an MBA after hons. degree is more. As both B.Com and Economics hons. students are given some priority. The choice of course is yours. Your job prospects on graduation are likely to be greatly enhanced, and your chances of promotion are also likely to be stronger than those of a corresponding pass graduate. The Honors degree also opens up many avenues for advanced postgraduate study. You are better qualified on graduation, than a pass graduate.
