Yes, you can write whatever you know, but the main thing is that the answer must reflect the right thing asked in the question.

Hi, In UPSC exam, law answers have to comprise the technical parts also like sections, cases which gives a very good impression on your answer. It does not have to limited to the books but has to contain the aforesaid. See the answer sheets of UPSC toppers to get an idea.
