MBA and MCA courses were conducted by many institutes which required AICTE approval but the Honourable Supreme Court of India declared in a recent judgment around last week of April 2013 that the AICTE can only ACT in an advisory capacity and not a governing body which is the UGC only. The main aim after doing the course is one or more of the following :
To have a legal, legitimate, and valid degree
    To join the public sector
    To join private sector job
To study further in India or abroad
    To be self-employed
If you are joining a UGC-approved university course, even if it is not approved by AICTE you will not suffer on any of the above accounts
