Automotive Engineering is an amalgamation of mechanical, electrical, and materials Science. This field deals with designing and manufacturing of new vehicles and the development of new processes to improve existing technology. The domestic vehicle manufacturing sector of India has been steadily increasing in the last few years. An entry-level engineer can earn up to INR 25K/ month- INR 50K/ month in India. B.Tech in mechanical engineering is much better than automobile. Mechanical engineering covers all aspects of the mechanical study that are available. Automobile is strictly confined course. As others have said, mechanical placements are also better. That does't mean that automobile is bad or whatsoever. Automobile too has broad scope and trained engineer in the field have high demands and get good payscale. LPU is a good university that offers multiple courses and very good placement. You can also contact students who study via Facebook or ask the administration directly on phone. The staff of LPU is very friendly. They will answer all your queries.

Better is mechanical. Automobile is constrained, while mechanical is a diverse field. Moreover, the previous year placements and student quality is better in mechanical as well as scope (with reference to LPU curriculum and my past experience). Hence mechanical will worth you more than automobile.

I think you should go by your interest if you are interested in automobile than go with automobile otherwise mechanical but according to my point of view, you should choose mechanical engineering because you'll get so many job opportunity in private sector as well as government sector too but please choose as per your interest.
