    Yes, it is necessary for an Electronics Engineer to be proficient in C. C is the language used to the programme embedded systems (it is generally referred to as Embedded C). C lets you view the system at a lower level compared to High level languages. C lets you deal with memory addresses directly and manipulate individual bits of data using bit manipulation operator. Once you learn C, it becomes easier to learn other languages. If you are new to programming most of the points mentioned above won't make sense to you. But once you learn C, you will appreciate it.
