CAT is one of the important entrance exams TO GET admission in an MBA course. However, there are other national and state level exams like:
    1. XAT conducted by Xaviers Institute.
    2. SNAP is conducted by Symbiosis University.
    3. NMAT by GMAC council.
    4. For NMIMS and other colleges, IIFT exam is conducted.
    5. CMAT is conducted by AICTE.
    6. MAT is conducted by AIMA.
    7. LPU NEST by Lovely Professional University
    8. There are state level exams like KMAT and MH-CET. One important point to be noted is that LPU NEST serves as scholarship test this year and so does CAT in the same university. DVD.

No, some colleges have their own entrance exams like SNAP (for symbiosis), IIFT, XAT (for XLRI), Maharashtra CET (for top colleges in Maharashtra through CET). CAT is important to get admission into IIMs, IITs, and other top colleges.

Yes, CAT is an important exam to get into IIMs for MBA. Its the only exam to get into MBA course for IIMs. IIMs gives weightage to 10-12th percentage + CAT percentile + WAT/PI performance + any work experience for selecting a candidate. There are many other colleges which consider CAT scores to offer admissions. Check the below link-

Without CAT exam, you are not eligible to apply in IIMs and most of the prestigious institutes accept CAT like: FMS – Delhi, but don't worry other entrance exams of MBA are also so much valuable.
SNAP especially for symbiosis institutes, XAT is accepted by Xavier Institutes and also for other reputed institutes, NMAT for NIMIMS Institutes, IIFT for IIFTs, etc.

There are various exams except CAT like XAT, MAT, CMAT, ATMA, GMAT or SNAP. With XAT, you can go for XLRI that's ranked 5th in India, and it's the best institute for HR in India.
SNAP is to get into the colleges of Symbiosis International University and some other colleges like Acharya Businesses School – Bangalore.
Through MAT and CMAT, you can go for various top ranked colleges and GMAT is mainly for the abroad universities.
