    CIP is a Government college located in Jharkhand state of India. Founded in 1918, it is one of the oldest and biggest mental health institutes in the country. This institute is financially aided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and is associated with Ranchi University. CIP provides facilities for different under graduate and post graduate courses in psychiatry, psychology and allied sciences for an admission capacity of more than one hundred and ten students per year.

The cut off marks for taking admission in Jharkhand's Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) are different for different courses and categories. The cutoff marks for MD courses are 550-600 for general category students, and 400-450 for OBC/SC/ST students and 500-550 for students belonging to NEET PG. For MPhil courses, the passing rate in the entrance test is 60%-70%. The institute then also looks at the candidates' performance in their qualifying exams.
